Members of Trinity,
This past week two things have happened that I’d like to share with you.
Two days ago a friend and member of my church in California had a heart
attack and died. I was stunned and couldn’t believe it. He was not sick
nor was he being treated for a heart condition. He was only 49 years old!
He leaves behind a wife and three children, two of whom are in college.
I also read an excellent article on aging. It was humorous but helped put
growing ‘mature’ in perspective. One of his points was that he felt blessed
to have lived long enough for his hair to turn gray. Many don’t have that
privilege. He had seen too many dear friends leave this world, too soon,
before they enjoyed old age.
While my heart is very heavy for my friend John and his family, I rejoice
that he was a man of faith and is now with the Lord. He wasn’t given the
privilege of old age, but he lives for eternity by grace through Jesus
Christ. Those of us who are approaching, or have arrived at ‘old age’
(whenever that is), let us enjoy it and continue to be good stewards of the
time and opportunities we have to serve our Lord and our neighbors.
