This is the time of year I affectionately call “jellybean season”. Jellybeans are perhaps my favorite candy and it is one of the things I have always instantly associated with spring and the celebration of Easter. Perhaps part of the reason I love jellybeans and associate them with this time of the year is that at an early age someone shared with me the “Jellybean poem”.
If you take a look at the colors behind each of the jellybeans, they can be a fun way to share the gospel message.
Red is for the blood Jesus shed,
Green is for new life ahead.
Yellow is for God’s Light so bright,
Orange is for the edge of night.
Black is for the sins we’ve made,
White is for the grace he gave.
Purple is for his hour of sorrow,
Pink is for our new tomorrow.
A jar of jelly beans, colorful and sweet,
Is a prayer, a promise, a special treat.
(Charlene Dickensen)
Simple words in the poem but an exciting way to share the easter story, especially with children. But people of all ages need to be reminded from time to time of the sweetness of the gospel in our lives and the joy that it brings. So go ahead and get yourself some jellybeans today and remember what God has done for you!
God’s Blessings,
