When it comes to the people of God sharing their faith in word and deed, this is often an uncomfortable charge. In Matthew 16:21–28, Jesus makes clear that the calling to death isn’t exclusively his; it’s for all of us who follow him. When a disciple follows Jesus, they put to death their former desires and their understanding of life to follow Jesus completely. This uncomfortable calling is the path of obedience.
